Journal Entry #1- First Newspapers

The Delivery of Information:
Compared to today, the obvious differences between the historical newspapers and today's modern newspapers or reading news online is, there are no pictures in the historical newspapers. Also the pictures in our newspapers today are in color, so not only do the historical ones not have any, everything is also in black and white. There is no headers in the old newspapers or anything that stands out and there is no obituary news. Also back then you can not read the news online, where today you can and it is what is mainly used.

Newspaper Suppression:
Although back in the day, the government had the authority to shut down newspapers, I do not think the government should have this authority today. In Canada we have a freedom of speech and a privilege to say what we want to say and speak our opinion. So we should be able to say what we want freely. I think that the only time the government or someone should have a say in something that is put in the newspaper is if it is rude or hurtful to others in the world.

Publishing today:
I think that there isn't many newspapers shut down today even though they are critical to the government because in democratic countries the government can't do much about it. Also because of the "freedom of the press" because they have a freedom to say what they want as long as they follow the rules and boundaries set, the government has no say in it.

Newspapers in Canada:
I found it very surprising to find out that the first Canadian newspaper was published in Halifax. I thought it would be published in a big city like Ottawa because it is the capital of Canada. But it would make sense because Halifax would be one of the first cities around Canada back then.
